Has God ever asked you to do something that didn’t make sense to you?
As someone who has degrees in both chemistry and business, and then hears God tell them to start writing, I can most certainly say “yes.” What was God thinking? I didn’t know, but it didn’t matter. God told me I needed to write, so I started writing…..after a couple months of wrestling with him that is.
Why is it so important to follow God’s call even when it doesn’t make sense? Well, because only doing things that make sense to us requires very little if any faith, and it certainly doesn’t require much trust either. Faith is of utmost importance to God, and Jesus displays that importance time and time again in his ministry. Read through the gospels and you’ll see Jesus quote on multiple different instances that by the people’s faith they were made well, or healed.
If God tells us to do something that doesn’t make sense, it isn’t a good enough reason to lose our faith in him. God’s knowledge far surpasses ours and he is a good Father who wants nothing but the best for us. The Bible often describes Abraham as a man of great faith. I’m going to guess that Abraham didn’t think God made much sense when God promised him ancestors and then asked him to kill his only son. However, Abraham he acted in faith anyway and God blessed him as promised.
The way God works today is no different. If God is asking you to do something that doesn’t make sense, don’t disregard his request, lean into it. God won’t ask you to do something that isn’t for your good.
